Two of these things I need, one of them I want.
We rarely own just one thing; objects demand companions. A razor needs a brush, which needs a stand. Knives require a drawer. A phone comes with a charger, case, and perhaps a stand. At work, a laptop leads to a desk, a chair, and cable organizers. Each object creates a web of dependencies, shaping our space and routines. While these systems bring order, they also demand attention, money, and space. Are we curating essentials or just managing clutter? Recognizing this cycle helps us make conscious choices—owning things that truly serve us rather than letting them dictate our lives.
